About the IFJ - Africa Office

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is the world’s largest organisation of journalists. It was first established in 1926 and then re-launched in 1946 and again re-launched to its present form in 1952. Today the Federation represents about 600, 000 members in more than 100 countries.

The IFJ established in 2002 an Africa office based in Dakar, Senegal, which enhanced its capacity for the defence of journalists’ rights. In this regard the IFJ aims to strengthen independent journalists trade unions, that are best able to defend media freedom and public scrunity.
