The Eastern Africa Journalists Association EAJA in collaboration with the IFJ held a Trade Union Leadership Seminar for the journalists’ unions and association in Eastern Africa, in Kampala, Uganda from January 16-17, 2008. The workshop concluded with a plan of action and set activities to be implemented in the region.

Association SAJA. Mzi Memeza a South African consultant was recruited as coordinator of the programme from FXI office in Johannesburg and started work in January 2006. The coordinator is working on the draft constitution and draft policy framework of SAJA, making preparations for the Executive Committee Meeting and Congress; and consolidating the structure of the organization. The AGM that will provide an opportunity for country unions to adopt the draft constitution and policy framework for SAJA, disband the current executive committee and elect a new one.

The West African Journalists Association (WAJA) held its 6th Congress at the Hotel Ivoire in Abidjan from May 4- 5, 2006. The Congress brought together representatives of national union members from all the sixteen West African countries. The congress was characterised by heated debates by the delegates in relation to the content of the activity report for the years 2002-2006.

A two-day training workshop on capacity building and the usage of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) was organised by the Association of Guinean Journalists (AJG) in collaboration with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) at the Bungalow Lodge in Kindia, about 135 kilometres from the capital Conakry.
